En 2017, Juan Diego Valera quiso desprenderse de unos carretes fotográficos no revelados -disparados entre 2005 y 2016- y ofrecerlos bajo el título de Tuétano. La obra consistía en una caja diseñada especialmente para la ocasión que contenía un carrete sin revelar. Puesto que había veinticuatro carretes sin revelar, se produjeron veinticuatro cajas, y el precio de salida era el precio exacto de coste de producción. Fue una decisión comprometida en un doble sentido: Juan Diego Valera realizaba un acto generoso y arriesgado, pues ofrecía lo que normalmente se oculta, es decir, un material latente en un carrete disparado en una fecha incierta y, conociendo la obra del autor, con la posibilidad de unas imágenes de contenido prometedor; y a la vez, quien recibía la obra se enfrentaba a la disyuntiva -que es en realidad el alma de la obra- de revelar o no el carrete en cuestión.

En 2019, Aleix Plademunt y Roger Guaus, de acuerdo con Juan Diego Valera, revelaron diez de los carretes, escogidos al azar, de los que todavía quedaban disponibles. Con las imágenes reveladas editaron un libro del cual el propio fotógrafo no tuvo absolutamente ninguna información hasta el mismo día de su presentación en público. Hasta ese momento, Juan no había conocido ni el concepto del libro ni tampoco el contenido de imagen alguna. La presentación fue un éxito de asistencia y de emoción.

In 2017, Juan Diego Valera wanted to get rid of some undeveloped photographic reels -shot between 2005 and 2016- and offer them under the title Tuétano. The work consisted of a box specially designed for the occasion that contained an unrevealed reel. There were twenty-four undeveloped reels, so twenty-four boxes were produced, and its price was the exact production cost price. It was a compromised decision in a double sense: Juan Diego Valera was carrying out a generous and risky act, since he offered what he normally hidden, that is, a latent material in a reel shot on an uncertain date. Knowing the author's work, with the possibility of some images of promising content. And, at the same time, whoever received the work faced the dilemma -that it is actually the soul of the work- to reveal or not the reel in question.

In 2019, Aleix Plademunt and Roger Guaus, in agreement with Juan Diego Valera, revealed ten of the randomly chosen reels that were still available. With the revealed images, they edited a book about which the photographer himself had absolutely no information until the very day of its public presentation. Until that moment, Juan had not known either the concept of the book or the content of any image. The presentation was a success of attendance and emotion.
